Nebraska Electrical License (Contractor, Journeyman, Residential)

Requirements to Obtaining your License
Electrical Contractor
Is An applicant for an electrical contractor license shall:
- Be a graduate of a four-year electrical course in an accredited college or university, or
- Have at least one year experience acceptable to the board, as a licensed journeyman electrician, or
- Have at least five years experience, acceptable to the board, in planning for, laying out, supervising and installing wiring apparatus, or equipment for electrical light, heat and power.
Journeyman Electrician
- Is An applicant for a journeyman electrician license shall have at least four years experience, acceptable to the board, in the electrical trade.
- Registration as an apprentice electrician for those years shall, on the approval of the board, constitute evidence of such experience.
- One year work experience credit will be given for completion of a two-year post-high school electrical course with a degree in electrical technology.
- One year work experience credit will be given for electrical experience gained in military service.
Residential Journeyman Wireman
- An applicant for a journeyman electrician license shall have at least four years experience, acceptable to the board, in the electrical trade.
- Registration as an apprentice electrician for those years shall, on the approval of the board, constitute evidence of such experience.
- One year work experience credit will be given for completion of a two-year post-high school electrical course with a degree in electrical technology.
- One year work experience credit will be given for electrical experience gained in military service.

Work that can be Done Under this License
Electrical Contractor
- Is licensed to bid, plan, layout, install and supervise the installation of electrical wiring, apparatus, and equipment anywhere in the State of Nebraska.
Journeyman Electrician
- Is licensed to install electrical wiring, apparatus, and equipment, and to supervise apprentice electricians, anywhere in the Electrician State of Nebraska.
Residential Journeyman Wireman
- Is licensed to wire for or install electric wiring, apparatus, and equipment for residential installations and to supervise Electrician, Type RW apprentice electricians anywhere in the State of Nebraska. Residential installations are defined as installations intended for a single-family or two-family residential dwelling, or a multi-family residential dwelling not larger than three stories in height.

Electrical Contractor fee is $250 when issued in ODD years or $125 when issued on EVEN years.

The Journeyman and Residential Journeyman fee is $50 when issued in ODD years or $25 when issued in EVEN years.

Apprentice registration fee is $40 when issued in ODD years or $20 when issued on EVEN years.
