| Requirements: |
An Alabama Home Builders license is required for any residential project that exceeds $10,000 or more in value
- Pre-approval is not required to sit for this examination and there are no requirements for continuing education.
- Applicants are not required to pass a separate Business and Law exam because it is included in the Homebuilder's exam.

One who constructs a residence or structure for sale or who, for a fixed price, commission, fee, or wage, undertakes or offers to undertake the construction or superintending of the construction, or who manages, supervises, assists, or provides consultation to a homeowner regarding the construction or superintending of the construction, of any residence or structure which is not over three floors in height and which does not have more than four units in an apartment complex, or the repair, improvement, or reimprovement thereof, to be used by another as a residence when the cost of the undertaking exceeds ten thousand dollars ($10,000).

Applicants are required to submit a credit report and document experience on the application The license fee is $205.00. The processing time is approx. 60 days. Applications must be submitted 30 days before the next scheduled board meeting. The board meets once per month. |
| Reciprocity: |
Alabama has a reciprocity agreement for this license with Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana. |
| Continuing Education: |
As of this time, there is no continuing education for this license. |
| Exam: |
- The examination fee is $98.00 whereas the license fee is $205.00. This license has reciprocity with Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
- The Alabama Home Builder Exam has 80 questions
- A time limit of 4 hours
- A 67.5% is required to pass.
- Topics on the exam include sitework, footings, and foundations; concrete and concrete reinforcement; masonry; carpentry; associated trades and drywall; roofing; estimating, plan reading and general code requirements; OSHA safety; licensing; estimating and bidding; liens; financial; payroll and taxes; personnel and labor; project management; contracts; business and organization; risk management; and safety record keeping and environmental.

We offer review for the Alabama Home Builder Exam through 1 ½ day seminar or in a home study/online class format. The fee for the live seminar is $445 and the online class is $195. During the class, students will highlight each one of the references that they are recommended for the exam. Math and plans analysis is also taught.
